The new slide show player is dedicated to images, and has a built-in advertising option that lets brands reach out to consumers through the web publishers that utilize Mochila’s widget, and offers revenue share for its web publishers.

MySpace ads click-through rate is down from 1 in 100— in 2006 to 1 in 1,000 in 2007. “Users became more or less desensitized to the advertising”.

Many feel that social-network advertising is still in its infancy and expect it to take some time to be successful. Even Google founder Sergey Brin says his company still has not found the “killer best way” to advertise on social networks.

MySpace Launches third-party apps platform

MySpaceMySpace launched a developer platform following� Facebook social network, to open its platform to developers. The MySpace Developer Platform (MDP) allows developers to create applications that interact with MySpace members and their social data. The Platform supports OpenSocial applications.

MySpace will let developers sell ads, sponsorships and products on special pages assigned to each application. Developers initially will keep all revenue.

Google released the Google Social Graph API, which will allows developers to build apps that can link up people on the Web. The API takes the publicly declared relationships about your accounts, on Twitter, MySpace.com, and other social network sites, and then your friends and their accounts, and makes that information publicly accessible for new apps. So, when you join a new network built using the API, you won’t have rebuild your social-network contact list.

Meebo releases API

Meebo has released an API  to enable social networking sites to incorporate instant messaging into their service.  Users will be able to interact in real time while on their favourite webpages.

The API will automate the creation, configuration and monetisation of Meebo Rooms for partners, allowing them to integrate chat rooms into their user registration databases and content management and publishing systems.

“Today’s API announcement, as well as the launch partners for our ad-supported Meebo Network, will bring Meebo and our partners closer to the goal of giving people the ability to connect, engage and discuss anything of common interest,” said Martin Green, vice-president of business, Meebo.
